Bruce Backman Turner

BRUCE TURNER – Inspired by the sea, Bruce moved his family to Rockport 35 years ago to paint professionally. Over the years, his work has encompassed varied subject matter from outdoor painting around Cape Ann and New England to the canals of Venice, Italy and the countryside of Alsace, France.

“My primary goal as a plein air painter has always been to capture the elements of the outdoors . . . the essence of light, atmosphere, time and place . . . and to create paintings which interpret that experience in a compelling and heartfelt way.”

Bruce’s work has brought him numerous national and regional awards, including the prestigious Louis Seley Purchase Prize at the Salmagundi Club. He is listed in Who’s Who in American Art, and has appeared in American Artist Magazine, the books Monhegan – The Artist Island, The Best of Oil Painting, and other publications. His work hangs in many private and public collections throughout the world. He has maintained a studio and gallery in Rockport since 1972, and is presently at Fine Arts of Rockport, 43 Main Street, 978-546-7082.
