Juried Artist Membership Application – 2024

Juried Artist Members in the categories of Painting, Graphics*, Sculpture and Photography are admitted through an annual jury process which evaluates the merit of their work, based on professionalism of technique and originality. The RAA&M hosts some of the country's most talented fine artists and fine art photographers.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Applicants will be required to submit five original works in the category for which they are applying (Painting, Graphics, Sculpture or Photography) that are created solely by the applicant – no work completed from classes or under supervision. Artwork must be suitably framed/presented to a professional standard and the original artwork must be delivered to RAA&M for review by the jury.

Image sizes:
Paintings and Graphics – Canvas/image size no smaller than 6 x 8 in. and no larger than 40 in. on the longest side, plus a reasonably sized frame.
Photographs – No prints smaller than 11 x 14 in. and no frames larger than 20 x 24 in. (measurement of the opening at the back of the frame, the outer edge of the mat/glass)
Sculpture – Must not exceed life size in dimension

Nonrefundable Application Fee: $50 (any category)
You may apply for more than one category for one application fee – but must submit five pieces of work per category. If accepted, the fee will be deducted from your dues.

RAA&M Artist Members may exhibit artwork only in the particular category for which they were accepted.

*The Graphics category includes all drawing mediums and original printmaking. Original printmaking must be manually created as an original work of art. This category includes woodcuts, engravings, linocuts, collagraphs, etchings, aquatints, drypoints, monotypes, silkscreens, etc. Pastels are generally considered painting unless they are used in a sketch-like manner with paper showing.

Photography images must originate with the artist via a light capture process. Editing or alteration of images for photography is permitted when all the components of the work are created by and belong to the artist. No synthetic or artificially generated images, stock images, clip art, or replacement skies created in whole or in part by image creation software (frequently called ‘AI Generative’ images) are allowed, and no use of artificially generative fill is allowed.

The Jury Process

The Jurors use a silent method of voting. Artists must receive at least 5 out of 7 votes in their favor to be accepted in the categories of painting, graphics or sculpture and at least 4 out of 5 votes in their favor to be accepted in the category of photography. Work that receives 60/40 votes is reviewed a second time and a juror may then speak up in defense or opposition for an applicant. Applicants are accepted on the quality and professionalism of the artwork. Due to the silent voting process, feedback is not given to applicants who are not accepted.

Notification

Artists will be notified by email regarding the jury results. It takes time for us to reach everyone, so please be patient - you will be contacted. Approximately two works by each artist who is accepted as a new juried artist member will be selected by the jury to be included in the New Juried Artist Members Show.
