Janet Sutherland

Janet received a BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art, New York City and began her career as an illustrator for Macmillan and Crown Publishers.
Painting primarily in oil, she strives to depict the unique personality and spirit of New England. Her paintings exhibit a strong sense of light and atmosphere. Her style is characterized by bold, deliberate brushwork and color that convey her enjoyment of the painting process.
Janet’s work has been exhibited in the Oil Painters of America 29th National Juried Exhibition, as well as the Rockport Art Association & Museum 2019 and 2020 Nationals. She has been the recipient of multiple awards, including the Thora M. Jensen Memorial Award, Hudson Valley Art Association 84th Annual Exhibition, Salmugundi Club, New York City and the Donald Allen Mosher Award, Cape Ann Plein Air Festival.
She has been juried into plein air events around the country, participating in our Cape Ann Plein Air Festival four times. In 2019, she was also awarded a residency on the Bay of Fundi, Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.
Her landscapes are in the collection of both U.S. and European art buyers.
