I am humbled and inspired by the beauty, power, and mystery of nature, including human nature, in all its cycles. My work strives to be mindful of the moment, appreciative of life and the passing of time. I seek beauty and truth of all sorts, and work at cultivating a life of gratitude and kindness. My body of work includes photography, collage, mixed media, drawing, and writing, particularly haiku, which I pair with my fine art photography.

Karen has been a working artist for over thirty years. Her mixed media collages, assemblages, furniture, and fine art photography have graced the art world for decades. She is an awardwinning editorial illustrator who uses her photography and collages to create illustrations for publication.

Clients have included The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The Huntington Theatre Company, Harvard University, MIT, Boston University, Brown University, GBH, NBC, Nine to Five, in addition to many other publications, corporations, and institutions.

Karen is a member of many art associations and groups, including The National Association of Women Artists, The New England Experimental Art Group, Rocky Neck Art Colony, The Rockport Art Association & Museum, Studio 7 Artists Group, Concord Art Association, Cambridge Art Association, gallery twist and more. She exhibits in many juried, invitational exhibitions, and national shows, and is collected in private and institutional collections. Her work is also privately commissioned.

Karen lives and works in Rockport, Massachusetts with her husband, Peter Holton, a retired nuclear physicist and artisan woodworker. Karen and Peter are presently collaborating on multiple projects.
