STATEMENT
My focus is landscapes of Gloucester Harbor, MA with a concentration on the fishing fleet and the harbor facilities that support the fishing industry. It is the rust, stained, worn buildings the crippled piers and the fishing vessels that energize me to use my photography skills.
BIOGRAPHY
Stephen Howard has enjoyed being a photographer most of his adult life, but it was not until he and his wife moved to Gloucester that his interest and skills greatly improved so that he was confident in displaying his photography in public.
Mr. Howard joined the Rockport Art Association & Museum over twelve years ago and has been participating in three Member and three Juried photography shows annually. His solo show Solarizations in 2019 featured fifteen pieces of landscapes images focused on the fishing fleet and the old industrial buildings of the Charlestown Navy Yard. His work was further exhibited in Planes, Trains, and Autos with photographer Judith Oleson in 2016 and Seascapes and Landscapes with photographer Joe Reardon in 2016.
In 2014, Mr. Howard was elected by the membership to the Board of Trustee of the Rockport Art Association & Museum, becoming the Director of the Photography Division and a member of the House Committee maintaining two historical buildings. Project managing major projects including: the replacement of the roof and skylights; and to convert all track lighting from incandescent to LED providing improved lighting and energy efficiency.
At the Plymouth Guild, Mr. Howard was juried in as an exhibiting member of the Russel Gallery in 2015. His work has been juried into Fine Art of Photography Show for six years.
At the Newburyport Art Association, he has been a member for the past six years.
At the Marblehead Art Association, he has been a member for the past two years.
Mr. Howard continues to enjoy his membership at the Rockport Art Association & Museum and looks forward to improving his photography skills in the future.
