Rosalie Sidoti

SECRETARY
Juried Artist Member – Painting

Rosalie Sidoti, a national award-winning artist, holds an advanced MA and BFA degree in Fine Art. She is a former university supervisor, juror, lecturer and instructor for various art organizations in the Northeast. Rosalie is the owner/artist of the Sidoti Gallery of Fine Art in Rockport, MA.

She describes herself as neither a pure impressionist nor a pure realist. Her intention is to immerse the viewer in the paintings with a feeling of quiet tranquility and inclusion. Rosalie is most gratified when the observer can feel the peace and visually experience the moment as presented on the canvas. Rosalie achieves a simple impression. She allows liberal and lyrical translation of that simplicity. To suit the moment, Rosalie takes pieces of what initially inspired her and composes the imagery by moving objects and creating a mood. She paints directly onto the canvas, deviating as much or as little necessary to capture the emotional impact it initially held for her.

Rosalie Sidoti allows her intuition to drive her work. She defines painting as not only a necessity but also a privilege. The importance of teaching, mentoring and continuous learning have been at the forefront of her artistic journey. She has dedicated herself to sharing her knowledge with the artists and students she taught at Tufts University Graduate School of Education, The School of The Museum of Fine Arts and at the various workshops in the New England area.

Stapleton Kearns

Juried Artist Member – Painting

Stapleton Kearns was born in 1952 and has been painting full time since the mid 1970s.  An established professional painter, he has made his living as an artist for thirty years. Stapleton grew up in Minnesota and studied at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the University of Minnesota. Neither was teaching what he wanted to learn, which was traditional painting.

He moved to Boston in 1973 and studied in the studio of R.H.Ives Gammell (1893–1981). A student of major American impressionist William Paxton, Ives passed on his art training to nearly 40 students over a period of almost 50 years. This was private instruction conducted at the historic Fenway studios in Boston, Massachusetts.

In 1983 Stapleton moved to Rockport, Massachusetts, and opened his first art gallery. Rockport is a historic art colony and Stapleton had the opportunity to know and learn from an older generation of artists. They taught him the methods and ideas of the Cape Ann school of landscape painting. Stapleton was elected  president of the Rockport Art Association and  held that position for five years.

For nearly ten years Stapleton has lived in New Hampshire. Stape, as his friends call him, writes a blog about painting that receives thousands of visitors each month. The blog serves as an extensive online tutorial for those wishing to know more about traditional landscape painting. He also teaches workshops across the country.

Stapleton specializes in landscapes that are painted on location but are often finished in the studio. His work is available from select galleries.

Dan Ross

Dan: I’ve had the pleasure of being an avid Cape Ann and American impressionist art collector for 35 years. I founded and ran an art fund for the last 25 years, bringing new investors in to the art world. I've lectured on art collecting at the Concord Museum, the Boston art show, and at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Maine.

I have also proven to be a really untalented sculptor, taking classes in both college and as an adult at the DeCordova, the benefit being I truly appreciate artists with talent, skill and vision.

My day job has been as CEO of a number of high tech firms. My most important job has been the wonderful pleasure of being with my wife for 50 years and being father and friend to our two incredible children.
