Understanding contour and the use of contour lines is a key to capturing an object’s volumetric form and the subtle dips and rises on a surface. In this workshop, we will explore the use of contour, cross-contour, and overlap lines to increase the illusion of depth, volume, and texture for all kinds of subjects. In addition to a presentation with examples and techniques, we will have plenty of time for drawing and individualized feedback. A PDF handout with exercises will be provided at the end of the workshop. All skill levels are welcome. The group will be limited to 12 participants. · a multipurpose sketchbook or drawing paper (preferably 9 x 12 in. or larger)
· drawing pencils of different hardness (one HB and a 2B or softer)
· pencil sharpener
· 1 gray kneaded eraser
· 1 white plastic erase
